The need to be closer to her family motivated Kate McEwen to move from Kununurra to Perth. But it was the flexibility and a passion for the outdoors that inspired her to change careers and start her franchise, Weeding Women Beechboro, in 2012.
Having grown up on a farm three hours north of Perth, gardening is in Kate’s blood. She spent 16 years living in the Kimberley, which gave her the opportunity to indulge her love of nature. She loves getting her hands dirty and challenging herself physically in the garden.
More about Kate
After moving to Perth in early 2012, Kate was working as a relief teacher but felt it didn’t fit well with her family life or her interests.
Walking past the Weeding Women stand at Garden Week, Kate, a mother of three young children, made the life-changing decision to join the Weeding Women team. “I was looking for a new challenge and joining Weeding Women as a Franchisee has allowed me to be flexible around my kids’ needs, and to keep active and fit while still working alongside other people,” Kate says.
Kate’s team currently includes a squad of 5 casual staff, all with a passion for all things gardening. Together they work in gardens from Ellenbrook and Bullsbrook, down to Bayswater, Mirrabooka and Ballajura.
“We all love growing things, being physical and getting our hands dirty. We find it very rewarding when as a team, we have completed a job and have brought someone’s garden back to life.”
“We all cherish the relationships we build with our regular clients. Taking care of their garden becomes like second nature – we know what needs doing even before my they do! Their trust in our service is never lost on us.”
Weeding Women Beechboro services the suburbs of Ashfield, Ballajura, Bassendean, Bayswater, Bedford, Beechboro, Caversham, Cullacabardee, Eden Hill, Ellenbrook, Embleton, Henley Brook, Kiara, Lockridge, Malaga, Mirrabooka, Morley, Noranda, West Swan and Bullsbrook.
